This week’s question:
Q… I would like to ask you what your thoughts are on something that keeps happening to me when I meditate.
During meditation my body literally shudders and jumps off the chair or floor etc.
At first I thought it was negative energy being released from my body. However, it has continued to happen after almost a year of meditating.
I was told by the person who taught me the meditation technique, that it was my inner strength (though I didn’t really understand what that meant.)
What was interesting, is I also experienced the same surge of energy after the self-attunement ceremony, when I placed my hands on my own body in The Heart position (just to see if I felt anything.)
I was wondering if my inner strength and Reiki energy were one and the same or if I am just full of negative energy… ha ha ha!
I do not like to meditate in front of anyone else as I am self-conscious of this shuddering and leaping that happens all the time. Though I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Also, I have enjoyed reading your articals. Your thoughts and your opinions really resonated with me and this is why I purchased your Reiki course.

And my answer:
A… When we relax sufficiently enough, especially when deeply relaxing during meditation, our bodies can spontaneously begin releasing tension which has built up through living life…
…and this can result in shakes and tremors etc.
This phenomenon can also occur through the increased energy flow meeting and clearing blockages within you.
And it has also been said that this jumping can occur during the awakening of the kundalini.
But… our astral body can also be prone to loosening during this time and you may ‘jump out of your skin’ literally…
And find yourself floating above your physical body and able to fly, simply by thinking it so.
So, instead of being embarrassed by this, try and do it more and more until you can control it.
And if you can learn to Astral Travel with control, then there is no end to what you can do.
You just don’t understand what is happening at the moment but as soon as you get off to the library or a good book shop you will be surprised at how special you are… and are going to become
There must be loads of information on the net too.
I’m not sure I know what your meditation teacher means by this being your inner strength? Perhaps you should ask her to clarify that for you
You have a wonderful talent here that simply needs to be practiced with control.
To do that you need some more knowledge… the key to anything
And why do we always presume that when something different or unusual occurs it must be a negative event?
There is only one energy, so you are the all of it… but what you are experiencing is NOT NEGATIVE, it is simply your experience.
So let’s stop calling it negative right now. In fact it feels positively exciting to me!
All you need is the confidence to finally jump out. You need more knowledge, which in turn will give you greater confidence and that will allow you to be in control.
Use your Reiki everyday on yourself to keep you steady and calm. A daily session will keep you centred and more even keeled, so to speak.
All you need now is a good book on the subject and the chance to take a few naps…
